Galations 2:20-21

I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me. I do not nullify the grace of God, for if righteousness comes through the Law, then Christ died needlessly." Galations 2:20-21

Costco

Staying on the money saving theme...

My husband and I have been thinking for quite some time about getting a membership to Costco. Last night we decided to take a ride over there and browse around the store. Neither of us have actually ever been in one. To make a long story short and after spending some time price comparing, we decided to sign up (yes Lori, we finally did it).

This is another money saving experiment we are doing right now. I do have some mixed feelings about it, though. Buying in bulk is a great deal, but can the two of us realistically use those items before they go bad. Will I end up actually spending more because I think I'm saving so much money? Is the membership fee actually worth it? We'll see I guess. If any of you have any strategies for how to get the most out of shopping at Costco I would really appreciate it!

I'm interested to see how it works out for you money-wise. If I had three teenage sons I'd sign up for sure - but for now I don't b/c we have a small house with not much storage, and we just don't use that much stuff. Though it is awesome for things like glasses/contact lenses and if you did disposable diapers and formula it's worth it $$-wise according to my friends. Keep us posted!

Haha - ironic that I just told you about MSM and here is a guest post she recently had on this very topic (the comments presented good pro's and con's I think): http://www.moneysavingmom.com/money_saving_mom/2009/05/guest-post-is-it-a-better-bargain-to-buy-in-bulk.html

I actually 'know' the author of this blog b/c a few years back we were on a small message board together.

Haha, that is funny. I just read it. I felt like I was reading my story. I'll be posting follow-ups on this for sure.

I must admit, I'm not a real fan of Costco. It's just me and Brad. I don't have the storage space. I go to the grocery store once/ week after I find out what our CSA veggies are going to be. My family had a membership to Sam's Club growing up. But I also had two older brothers! After they left the house, my parents and I just didn't utilize the whole "buying in bulk" concept. Our church has a membership to Costco... I know that. We've been using green cleaning supplies {which we get from another store?} I'm not exactly sure what all we buy in bulk for the church. Though we do host A LOT of socials. St. John's is big on potlucks... or any gathering that involves food, really- ha!

Costco might be a good resource for diapers and baby formula, etc. Though you're probably going the natural route... eh?

Good luck!

Byron is a big fan of the whole buying in bulk thing. We have basement with a bunch of shelving we just put in and he's convinced with proper storage this is going to work out well-even if there is only the two of us! We will be nursing the baby and we are going to do cloth diapers as well, so we won't be needing those items. Although every mom tells me how great of a deal diapers and formula are. After walking through the store we found there is a lot more than just non-perishable food items (although I wasn't that impressed with the fresh produce). They do have a few organic items I would buy. They have a butcher, baker, electronics dept. clothing, etc. I like to make all of our food as homemade as possible and things like oils, flour, and sugar are an amazing price! I don't think we'll shop there exclusively, but with the garden I'm hoping to limit the amount of running around I do to grocery shop and get the best deals. They also have a gas station and there is a Costco on Byron's way home, so that will be a great way to save money too.
